Watering.
Although we've experienced some wet July's recently it is still a hot month and we shouldn't rely on rain water alone to keep our gardens alive and healthy.
If you don't have time to water by hand, consider installing a timed watering system.
Do what you can to conserve water. Get a water butt to collect water from your gutter. Apply a mulch to garden beds and add water storing crystals to tubs and baskets.
Plants in containers will need checking daily and give newly planted plants a good soaking. Don't waste water on established plants, their roots will be able to penetrate deep down in the soil to find moisture.
Pests and diseases.
Pests and diseases multiply rapidly in warm weather. Take action before they get out of hand. Keep the garden clean and tidy and insure a good airflow around your plants. Over crowding can encourage mildew and other fungus problems.
Sprays can be used to tackle pests but do what you can to attract natural predators such as birds, ladybird lave and spiders.
