Protect plants from slugs and snails.
You will probably notice an increase in slugs and snails in your garden. This is due to the spring showers and warmer temperature.
It is impossible to eradicate these pests from your garden completely but pellets, copper tape on plant pots and good old fashioned beer traps all will help to keep the numbers down.
For best results, however, do what you can to encourage hedgehogs, frogs, toads and birds into your garden. These all prey on slugs and snails and can be attracted by log piles, the odd untouched pile of autumn leaves, ponds, bird nesting boxes and feed.
Sow vegetable seeds and thin out seedlings.
Many vegetable seeds can now be sown including; Leeks, fennel, tomatoes and herbs.
Remember to thin out seedlings to avoid over crowded, straggly plants that won't crop well. The thinnings of most vegetables can be transplanted. These disturbed transplants will mature a little later than those left in the row and you will be rewarded with a secondary crop. Water lightly after thinning/transplanting in warm weather.
